Dr. Richard Allen Langsdorf and Doris J. Langsdorf

June 15, 1939 — April 2, 2025

Massillon

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Doris Jean (Gill) Langsdorf and Dr. Richard Allen Langsdorf, beloved married couple of 65 years, who passed away peacefully on Monday, March 31, 2025 at the age of 84 years and on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 aged 85 years respectively. They were surrounded by their three loving daughters.

Doris Jean (Gill) Langsdorf was born on January 29, 1941 in Springfield, Illinois, and Richard Allen Langsdorf was born on June 15, 1939 in Akron, Ohio. They met at a high school youth church camp near St. Louis, Missouri and their love story began. Their bond was a testament to their commitment to faith, family, and to loving each other.

Doris was known for her generosity, sense of humor, quick wit, poetry and art skills, kindness, and the fierce love she had for her family. She found joy in traveling with her husband, writing poetry, and spending time with friends. Richard was admired for his compassion, wisdom, his dedication to helping others heal and learn. He loved being a pediatrician for nearly 50 years, traveling with his wife, promoting education and wellness, skiing, golfing, and spending time with friends.

Together, Doris and Richard shared a life filled with exploring new places while traveling with friends, laughing at family gatherings, being an active part of their church family, social clubs, and hospital groups. They were devoted to their three daughters, their grandchildren, and their extended family. They also found joy in playing cards and creating memorable family traditions as well as cultivating very special relationships with different groups of friends.

Doris and Richard are survived by: their three daughters Laura (Kevin) Marciniak, Lynn (Victor) Leija, Lisa (Christopher) Shearer; granddaughter Shelby Marciniak (Jordan) Novelly, grandson Cody Marciniak (Heavenne Parks), granddaughter Cassandra Shearer, grandson Cameron Shearer; sister/sister-in law Frieda (Gill) Brock; niece Michele Brock, nephew Bob Brock, niece Debbie (Burleyson) Daniel, nephews Rick Burleyson, Bob Burleyson, niece Julie (Buffington) Baker, nephew John Buffington.

Doris is predeceased by her parents Frank P. Gill and Jeanette (Hapner) Gill, her brother Frank G. Gill, her sister Donna (Gill) Buffington, her brother-in-law Bill Buffington.

Richard is predeceased by his parents Phillip Langsdorf and Wilma (Singleton) Langsdorf Wright, his aunt Rose (Langsdorf) Patterson, his brother William P. Langsdorf, his sister-in-law Mary Alice Langsdorf, his sister Marlene C. (Langsdorf) Burleyson, his brother-in-law Bill Burleyson, and his nephew Steve Burleyson

As a witness to the devotion Doris and Rich had to each other, they were holding hands as Doris peacefully passed to her glory, surrounded by the love of her husband and daughters. The 65 years they shared did not dim the simple joy or importance of a touch of love. As Rich’s time grew nearer, a single female cardinal stood on the patio of his room. Within moments of his passing, his daughters noticed a male cardinal joined the female then the two birds flew off together. In the Christian context, both the blood of Jesus and cardinals are used as symbols of vitality, and that vitality is everlasting. We believe that in heaven, Doris and Rich are whole, healed, and together again. Today, they are blessed to continue the love story they began more than 65 years ago for eternity.

Scripture clearly says, “By His blood, we are freed from sin to serve the living God, to glorify Him, and to enjoy Him forever.”

We will honor the wishes of Doris and Rich by having an informal gathering of friends and family to share memories and celebrate their lives at the Cherry Blossom Banquet Hall, 735 Cherry St East, Canal Fulton, OH 44614, from 2:30- 5:30 pm on Thursday, April 10, 2025, which will include a message of prayer and blessing at 5:00 pm. You are welcome to attend as you can.

The family requests that, in place of flowers, donations be made to: Aultman Hospice and Compassionate Care Center or please consider making a tribute donation to help fight Alzheimer’s at: Alzheimer's Association.
