Dorothy Protos

Dorothy (Panis) Protos, age 92, formerly of Massillon, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, January 3rd, 2023, in Alpharetta, Georgia, where she resided with her daughter, Maria Stanforth.

Born in Massillon to the late George and Theone (Syrios) Panis, she was a 1948 graduate of Massillon Washington High School. Following high school, she then went on to graduate from the Canton Academy of Beauty (Cosmetology). Dorothy worked for many years as a hairdresser in her own salon, Doorway to Beauty. She was a Past President of the St. George Philoptochos Society and served many years as a Sunday School Teacher. Dorothy was also a 50-year Member of the Massillon Women's Club and served as a Past President.

She was preceded in death by her husband Peter N. Protos. Dorothy is survived by her children Maria (John) Stanforth and Nicholas (Jennifer) Protos. Along with her eight grandchildren: Christopher Protos, PJ Protos, Jackie Smith, Bryan Stanforth, Andrew Stanforth, and Melissa Stanforth, Adam Protos, and Erin Protos Simmons. As well as her nine great grandchildren. Dorothy loved nothing more than spending time with her granddaughter Melissa Stanforth and regularly watching movies, going to the MarSol Beauty Salon, and enjoying outings to their favorite restaurants together. Melissa was also a dedicated caregiver during Yiayia’s final days.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at St. George Greek Orthodox Church at 10:00 am. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am with interment to follow at Massillon Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Shiners Hospital for Children.

She will be deeply missed, may her Memory be Eternal.
