Dorothy A. Burns, 98, of Massillon, passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2024. Dorothy was born on May 22, 1925 in Buffalo, New York, the daughter of the late Martin and Odessa O'Neill.
She was lifelong resident of the area and a member of St. Mary Catholic Church where she taught CCD, donated her time with St. Vincent DePaul, and was a Eucharistic Minister. She also volunteered at Massillon City Hospital, Faith in Action, the library at St. Mary School, and a Cub Scout Den Leader. She enjoyed sewing, canning, working on her puzzles and gardening. Dorothy and her late husband John were also Foster Parents.
Along with her parents, and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Larry Burns, and siblings, Mary Virginia Dearth, Fr. Donald O'Neill, and Thomas O'Neill.
She is survived by children Karen (Mark) Biedenbach,Kenneth (Tracey) Burns, Michael (Bonnie Jean) Burns, Patricia (James) Paulus, Ellen (Larry) Indorf, Mary (Allan) Humbert, and Joe (Nadine) Burns; many grandchildren,great grandchildren, and great - great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024 at 11 a.m at Divine Mercy Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church. Fr. Edward Gretchko, Officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, February 4, 2024 from 2-4 pm at the Paquelet Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society. Messages of comfort and support may be sent to the family at www.paquelet.com.
