Doris Irene (Gray) Shannon, age 91 of Massillon, passed away surrounded by her loving family on June 20, 2021 at her daughter’s home in Massillon. Doris was a 1950 graduate of Dennison High School. She met her sweetheart, Walter Shannon Sr. while he was in the service via letters. They were married on August 02, 1953 and they shared 58 years together until his passing in 2011. Doris retired as a production worker at Ore Ida. Doris enjoyed spending time with her family, camping, making and selling candy, cooking and baking. She loved giving out hugs, and being with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was devoted to helping with the Massillon Tiger Swing Band by working in the popcorn (pizza west) stand since 1967. She is survived by her children Vickie Anderson, Brenda Baxter, Hazel (David) Sanders, Tammy (Larry) Kerstetter all of Massillon and Walter (Gertrude) Shannon Jr. of Missouri and Donald (Grace) Shannon of Texas; 32 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Walter G. Shannon Sr., daughter Wanda Irene Shannon, brothers Robert Gray, Johnnie Gray and sisters Norma Law, Gladys (Louise) Able, Rosa Wright, Juanita Scott and Gloria Davidson. A Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 10:00a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Massillon – 2625 Ohio State Drive, Massillon, OH 44646 with Bishop Jeremy Fowler officiating. The family will receive friends at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon on Friday, June 25, 2021 from 2-4 P.M. and from 6-8P.M. and 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Dalton Cemetery. Donations in Doris’ memory can be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The family would like to thank the staff of Laurels of Massillon, Mercy Medical Center/Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland Clinic/Akron General, Altercare of Nobles Pond and Aultman Hospice for Doris’ exceptional and loving care.
