Donna Jean Somogy

Donna Jean Somogy, age 83 of Massillon, died on Monday, February 15, 2010 in her daughter Jane’s home with her daughter by her side. She was born on April 27, 1926 in Massillon, the old Brookfield neighborhood and was the daughter of the late Harry Owens and Martha (Mesenbrink) Owens. She was a lifelong area resident. Donna was a 1941 graduate of Washington High School, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Mother’s Altar Rosary Society of St. Joseph’s. She volunteered at the school cafeteria, at the church and was a room mother. Donna loved to be with all of her many friends and spending time talking with them and going places with them. Her hobbies were crocheting, playing cards, walking, puzzles and visiting family and friends. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Somogy; her daughter Peggy Lynne Ivan, her brother Clarence Owens, her sisters; Edna Hopper, Aleda Keller Ruth Ice, Helen Engelhardt and Marlys Brenner. She is survived by her son and daughter in law; James, Jr. and Kathy Somogy, her daughters; Linda M. Janata, Jane A. and David Miller and Jean A. Somogy, her son in law, Richard Ivan, nine grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Fr. Raymond L. Paul officiating. Burial will follow at Brookfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 5-8 P.M and on Tuesday from 9:00 – 9:45 A.M. at the Paquelet Funeral Home. The family would like to give special thanks to a special hospice nurse, Gabriela Jimenz, who was with her in her time of need with her daughter Jane.
