Donald R. 'Don' Steed

Donald R. “Don” Steed, age 79 of Massillon, passed away Friday morning at Rose Lane Health Care Center. Don was born on May 21, 1928 in New Brighton, PA to the late Kenneth and Edith (Hall) Steed and was a 1948 Washington High School graduate. He was a United States Navy Korean Conflict Veteran. Don retired from Massillon Steel Castings following 31 years of service as a buyer, and later worked for Fisher Foods. He was a member of Clinton Lodge #47 F.A. & M. and Grace United Church of Christ where he served on Consistory as an elder and deacon. Don served as a Boyscout Leader for 12 years and he also enjoyed fishing and gardening. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother William Steed. Don is survived by his wife, Miriam “June” (Bettilyon) Steed with whom he celebrated 54 years of marriage on June 27, 2007; sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas (Janet) Steed of Warsaw, Oh, Dane (Linda) Steed of Canton; brothers, Howard “Buddy” Steed of Santa Anna, CA, Norman Steed of Massillon; sisters, Suzanne Stocker of Orrville, Connie Bruegger of Massillon; grandchildren, Brandon, Josh & Renee Steed; step grandchildren, Tommy, Tina and Tammy Young; step great grandchildren, Anthony, Raven, Kaylah, James and Aniyah Young and 3 step great great grandchildren. Funeral services celebrating Don’s life will be held Monday at 11:00 AM at Grace United Church of Christ with Rev. Barry R. Stirbens officiating. Calling hours will be Sunday from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon and one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday. Interment will take place at Sunset Hills Burial Park at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Memorial Fund of Grace United Church of Christ.
