Donald P. Froelich, Sr., age 81 of Akron, passed away Wednesday at Akron City Hospital following a brief illness. He was born October 20, 1924 in Reedurban, Ohio to the late Marjorie and Raymond Froelich. He served in the army for four years. During his tour he survived the invasion of Normandy serving in the 3rd Armored Division under the direction of General George Patton in 1944 and again engaged in combat at the Battle of the Bulge later that year. After faithfully serving his country, he graduated from Kent State University with a Degree in Business Management. He worked for the City of Akron in the Tax Department for nearly thirty years. After retirement he greatly enjoyed his passion of dancing, swimming and traveling. He enjoyed traveling to Florida and Las Vegas, Nevada. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean C. Froelich, of nearly thirty years of marriage, and niece, Loretta Jean DeMarco. He is survived by his daughter, Peggy (Lloyd) Warren of Melissa, TX.; his sons, Don (CarrolAnn) Froelich Jr. of Massillon, and Mike (Kelly) Froelich of N. Canton; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and three sisters, Marguerite Showers of Charleston, SC; Pauline Pyle of Sherman TX, and Judy Morris of Streetsboro, OH, and many other nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Monday at the Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home at l: 00 pm. Friends may call Sunday from 2-4p.m. at the funeral home. His grandson Rev. Chad Froelich will be officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Burial Park.
