Donald Link Bonk of Louisville, Ohio, born August 9, 1943, drew his last breath on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at the age of 80. He is predeceased by his parents Ralph and Dorothy (Link) Bonk. He leaves behind his wife of over fifty-nine years, Carol Ann Bonk; children, Eric (Patricia) Bonk, Colleen (Anthony Mangino) Bonk and Kurt Bonk; grandchildren, Colten Bonk, Cooper Bonk, Elizabeth Bonk-Cosgrove, William (Amanda) Phillips, Rose Leggett and Jessica Edgell; great-grandchildren, Amorah, Aspen and Cecilianna; sister, Beatrice (Frank) Gressel.
Donald was born and grew up in Canton, Ohio, went to Saint Joseph’s Elementary School, and graduated from Central Catholic High School, University of Dayton with an associate degree in technology and Kent State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree.
Donald authored many papers with innovative ideas on energy. He retired from the U.S. Department of Energy where he had received the Secretary of Energy Achievement Award.
He spent his free time hunting, fishing, and playing with N-scale trains. He was a member of the National Model Railroad Association, N-Scale Association-Division 1, life member of the NRA and Canton McKinley Gun Club.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 14th 4pm-6:30pm at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2427 Tuscarawas St W, Canton, OH 44708.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Donald’s favorite charities: The Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
