Donald L. Rohr, of Massillon, passed away September 14, 2022, at the age of 71, due to Bulbar ALS. The world became a better place when he was born on October 14, 1950, to the late Doris and Clarence Rohr. Don graduated from WHS in 1969. He worked for the phone company for 39 years which included a variety of jobs, such as communications for two presidential visits, Homeland Security, FBI, Army Intelligence, and other federal agencies. Also, special circuits such as fire, police, and airports. While working for Ohio Bell, Don was an AFL/CIO delegate and legislative chairman and photographer for CWA. During his many trips to Washington DC, he met with Ralph Regula, Nancy Pelosi, John Glenn and other politicians.
Don was a past member of the Jaycees, Canton Camera Club, and the WHS Alumni Board. As a present member of the Lions Club, he was the recipient of The Sherm Roney Memorial Award 2015-16 and the Melvin Jones Eye Care Foundation Award for his service as a Knight of the Blind 2021. He also volunteered as a T-Ball coach, Cub Scout and Pack Leader and was a St. Mary's marriage preparation program sponsor for many years. He was an avid photographer and took photos for many reunions and weddings. Don enjoyed spending time on his pontoon boat and place at Atwood Lake, as well as attending the grandkids events & family game nights.
He is survived by his loving wife and inseparable companion for over 50 years, Gail; devoted children Derek (Dr. Norah A.) Rohr of New Orleans and Mindy Lenigan (Wayne) Pamer of Massillon. He was "Paw-Paw" the greatest grandpa to Brooke and Reid Lenigan. Also survived by three sisters Janice Lillo, Joan Bricker and Marge (Walt) Hoffman; one brother Vern Rohr; mother-in-law Dolores Allman and sister-in-law Kim Allman.
In addition to his parents Don was preceded in death by his brother Joseph (Karen) Rohr; father-in-law Paul Allman; brothers-in-law John Lillo and Ron Bricker and his sister-in-law Brenda Rohr.
Although a jokester, Don was the kindest, most caring person we know. He will be missed by many. In lieu of flowers donations to ALS research are appreciated.
The family will receive friends from 10am-12pm on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at the Paquelet Funeral Home, Massillon. A funeral service will follow at 12pm in the funeral home, The Very Rev. Canon Fr. Matthew Mankowski officiating.
