Donald J. Peters Jr

Donald J. Peters, beloved father, companion and friend, went home to the Lord Friday, January 4, 2019 at the age of 64. The son of Margaret Getz-Strickling and Gerald Strickling, Donnie was born December 27, 1954. A lifetime resident of Massillon and a 1973 graduate of Washington High School, Donnie was proud to be deeply engaged in his community. He was a loved and valued member of the Fibercorr Mills family for 40 years. He also served as a board member for the Massillon Boys and Girls Club, and as a Massillon City Councilman. Donnie was also a member of Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church, Eagles 190, Elks Lodge 411, Massillon Booster Club, Massillon Tigers Orangemen, Massillon Rotary Club and Shady Hollow Country Club. When he wasn’t at work or his NASCAR-themed shop, Checkered Flag, Donnie loved to spend time on the Ohio River, in a bowling alley or on the golf course. Donnie’s contagious energy and enthusiasm, as well as his unrivaled passion and loyalty, will be forever remembered and missed by his family, friends, coworkers and community. Grateful to have shared in his life are his daughters, Jenna Peters and Kristen Peters-Thomas (Tim Thomas), his companion, Marcie Bragg, and his siblings Kenneth J. Peters (Audrey), Darrel S. Strickling, and Denise A. Strickling. He is preceded in death by his parents. Family will receive friends at the Paquelet Funeral Home from 3-5 pm and 6-8 pm on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 and on Thursday January 10. 2019 from 8:30am - 9:30am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Raymond Paul at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 10, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 322 3rd St. Massillon. The family suggests donations to the Massillon Boys and Girls Club in Donnie’s honor. Donnie, we will always be inspired by your immense love for life and the people in it. We love You.
