Donald A. Graybill, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and proud U.S. citizen, passed away Wednesday October 7, 2009 at Meadow Winds Health Care Center. Donald, of Jackson Twp. was born in Massillon March 27, 1921, the first child of Charles and Ruth (Stahl) Graybill. He attended Massillon public schools and graduated from Washington High School. He then graduated from Tri-State University in Indiana with a degree in chemical engineering. He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy for WWII and the Korean War. Afterwards he stayed in the Reserves and eventually attained the rank of Captain prior to retiring with over 30 years of dedicated service. During the 1960’s he served as president of the Jackson School District’s Board of Education. After being employed as a salesman in the industrial chemical industry for a number of years, he then became a life insurance salesman and partner for the Duerr-Smith-Lane Insurance Agency, from which he retired. For many years he was a member of Central Presbyterian Church in Massillon, and more recently, he was a member of Jackson Friends Church where he served in various capacities. He spent many hours volunteering with the Total Living Center of Canton, OH. He also served as a tour guide at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. He is survived by his wife Shirley Graybill; his daughters Sandra Johns of Franklin, TN, Gayle (Alan) Pellegrini of Pacheco, CA, and Wendy (Donald) Crisp of North Canton, OH; his son Ronald (Anita) Graybill of Franktown, CO; his sisters Ruth Eberhardt of Sour Lake, TX, and Thelma Jacobsen of Gardnerville, NV; his brother Gerald Graybill of Massillon. In addition, he is survived by 8 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Monday October 12, 2009 from 10 to 11:30 A.M. at Jackson Friends Church followed by funeral services at 11:30 A.M. with Pastor David Tebbs officiating. Interment will follow in Rosehill Memorial Gardens. Contributions in Donald’s memory may be given to Jackson Friends Church or the Total Living Center.
