Donald Dean Laps age 83 of Massillon, passed away Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at Allay Senior Care in Canton. Donald was born on August 16, 1928 in Massillon one of eight children of the late Frank and Beulah (Harmon) Laps. Don graduated from Washington High School in 1947 and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He worked at Strabley Building and Supply and Huth Redimix as a truck driver. Don enjoyed traveling, especially to Las Vegas several times a year, rooting for his Massillon Tigers and golfing with his brother David, best friend Herm Lonas, and his brothers-in-law, Joe and Carl. He was a member of McKinley Eagles #2370. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Frank Jr., Ralph and Eugene. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia (Willis) Laps; his brother David (Sheila) Laps of Massillon; his sisters, Eileen (Tom) Zeller and Ruth Ann (Veryl) Turskey both of Massillon and Genny (Tom) Hamman of Circleville, OH; his sister-in-law Margaret (Gene) Laps of Canton; and his longtime friend Herm (Doris) Lonas; his sisters and brothers-in-laws, Nancy (Joe) Stephen, Barbara (Carl) Nelson, Shirley (Al) Menegay and Don Willis and numerous nieces and nephews. Don's caring manner, his laughter and happy personality will be greatly missed by family and friends. His family would like to thank the staff at Allay Senior Care of Meyers Lake and Harbor Light Hospice for their compassionate care. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Paquelet and Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home. Rev. Barry Stirbens, Officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Burial Park.
