Donald A. Weidig, Sr., 84 of Massillon, passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Amherst Meadows Nursing Center following a brief illness. He was born on September 11, 1928 in Cleveland to the late Wilbur L. and Lillie M. (Knierum) Weidig. He was a graduate of John Marshall High School, Cleveland and attended Bowling Green State University. After serving in the US Army, Don and Betty raised their family in Fairview Park. Upon retiring from Clark Reliance Corp. in 1990, they relocated in Stark County to be closer to their children. Don was an avid Slot Car Racer, having won the first USRA National Championship in 1968. A modeler, bowler, golfer and dedicated family man, he enjoyed all things mechanical and could design and build anything. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Perry Township. He is survived by a daughter, Sandy (John) Simpson of Massillon, a son, Don (Connie) Weidig, Jr. of Massillon, five grandchildren, Lindsay (Keith) Fockler, C.J. (Rachel) Alguire, Alex Simpson, Seth Reese, Molly Weidig and four great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty (Plesnicher) Weidig and a sister Eleanor Weidig. Friends may call at the Paquelet Funeral Home on Friday, November 2, 2012 from 5:00PM- 8:00PM. Funeral services will be held at the Paquelet Funeral Home on Saturday November 3, 2012 at 10:00AM.
