Denise “Cissy” Tyson, 67, of Canton, passed away unexpectedly on October 14, 2023. She was born in Canton, Ohio on July 3, 1956, to the late Dennis and Erma (Muse) Tyson.
Cissy was a 1974 graduate of Canton McKinley. She worked very hard throughout her life, beginning with Park Farms where she retired from after 20+ years of service. She also worked at Value City and Dollar General. In addition, Cissy worked at Fair Play where she was deeply loved by the children. Her compassion and motherly touch were some of her greatest qualities.
Cissy had a love for all things nautical, especially clipper ships and lighthouses which she had collected over the years. She also enjoyed yardwork and was recently gifted a 6ft lighthouse that she proudly displayed.
Her greatest and most accomplished title was MewMaw, which was given to her by her great-granddaughter JiMiylah who was her world. Cissy also cherished her relationship with her loving granddaughter Ikeiah. One of their favorite things to do together was making pancakes every Saturday morning. Her ending goal was always making sure her two girls were happy and taken care of.
Not only could Cissy bake, but she was also very skilled at latch hooks, puzzles, and many other crafts. No matter what the event was, her one-of-a-kind pound cake would surely be featured.
Cissy was a shining beacon of light, and the world will be a little dimmer without her.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her one and only loving son, Chezaraye Marquie Burns and daughter-in-law Starlett Burns; her beloved granddaughters Ikeiah A. Burns, Ambrazae Sheffield, grandson Kingston Davis Isles; her great-granddaughters who she adored, JiMiylah Williams and Starnae Davis Isles; god-daughter Aretha (Sweetie) Harris; god-granddaughters Tierra, Cierra, Chyenne and Dazia; siblings Alice Tyson-Graves, Steven Tyson, Jacquie (Kenny) Perrin, Venetta (Alva) Watkins, Andre (Karen) Tyson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, especially Dr. Domingo, Chrystal Gulley and Al Thomas.
In addition to her parents, Cissy was preceded in death by her brother LaVerne Tyson and nephew Dwayne Tyson.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 21st from 2-3 p.m. A homegoing service will begin at 3 p.m. with her close friend, Pastor Luke officiating.
Following the service, a repast will be held at Starz, 111 Cleveland Ave. S, Canton, Ohio 44702.
