David W. Sheegog, 77, of North Canton, Ohio, passed away January 18, 2025. He was born on June 18, 1947, in Massillon, Ohio.
David was a 1966 graduate of Massillon Washington High School. He was a Massillon Tiger through and through, participating in football, basketball, and baseball. After high school, David attended Mt. San Jacinto Junior College. At that point, he married the love of his life Victoria and settled back in Massillon to start their family. David worked at Republic Steel for over 40 years until his retirement. David was inducted into the Negro Old Timers Hall of Fame in 1996. Among his other accomplishments, are in 2012 he was awarded a trophy by the Marines Great American Rivalry Series at the Massillon vs McKinley game. Dave was also inducted into the Tiger Football Hall Of Fame in 2015.
During his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling. He also was on a golf league at LTV Steel. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, family & friends. Dave enjoyed watching his sons and grandsons playing in their sporting events.
Dave was a dedicated member of the St. James AME Zion Church. He served on the Board of Trustees and his favorite was serving on the Board of Ushers until his health no longer allowed him to serve. He was also a member of The Seasoned Saints Ministry.
David was preceded in death by his parents Odell and Louise Sheegog; his siblings, Willie Pep, Earl Sheegog, Ethel Sheegog, and Sarah Thurman; and his nephew, Carlos Sheegog.
He is survived by his loving spouse of 58 years, Victoria Sheegog; sons, Sean (Natasha) Sheegog, David Sheegog Jr., and Bryan Sheegog; grandchildren, Justin, Sean D, Victoria, Jaden, Cadyn, Kenyon, Keyanna, Bryan Jr., and bonus grandchildren, Jon Tera, Jon Naye, and JayDen; great-grandchildren, Julian, Adrienne, and Jru; sister, Cynthia Sheegog; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 10:00am to 12:00pm on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at St. James A.M.E. Church. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 pm, Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the church. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Memory Gardens.
