David R. Deroy

David R. DeRoy, 76, of Massillon, Ohio, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on November 10, 2021, surrounded by his family. If you asked Dave how old he was when he met his Lord in Heaven, he would have told you 246 years old. Why? Because Dave was a Marine! He left this earth on the Marine Corps birthday and he would have been so proud. Dave was a 1963 graduate of Massillon High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the Marine Corps where he proudly served for 4 years. Dave worked 35 years before retiring from the Hoover Company. He was very fortunate to be able to have many years in retirement to enjoy his favorite things in life. He loved to fly fish and travel with his family. However, the thing he enjoyed most in life was watching his grandsons, Trevor and Tyler play sports. He never wanted to miss a match or game, especially baseball. He would tell anyone around him “that’s my grandson.” He was so proud. Anyone who knew Dave well knew he had his own way of doing and saying things that will always be remembered and make us smile. The one we all continue to say and laugh about is when Sandy would ask him to do something; his response was always “Yes Dear!” Dave is survived by his loving wife, Sandy, whom he was married 52 years; son and daughter-in-law, Brent & Wendy; grandsons, Trevor & Tyler. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank & Dorotha DeRoy; brother, Charles “Buzzy” DeRoy. We especially know he had a joyous reunion with his son, Marc, who passed away 34 years ago. What a beautiful welcome he received in Heaven! The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 16th from 5-7 p.m. at the Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home in Massillon. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with calling hours beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will take place at Sunset Hills Burial Park where military honors will be rendered.
