David P. Books, age 69 of Massillon, passed away Friday morning at his residence following a lengthy illness. David was born on March 17, 1937 in Altoona, PA to the late George and Marie (Seidel) Books and was a Massillon resident for 44 years. He was a 1956 Central Catholic High School graduate and served in the National Guard. David retired from ACME in May 1999 following 46 years of service as a retail clerk. He enjoyed collecting Lionel Trains, bowling, yard work especially landscaping and was a Massillon Tiger and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Massillon where he served as an usher. David is survived by his wife, Diane J. (Crookston) Books, with whom he celebrated 44 years of marriage on September 9, 2006, Daughters and sons-in-law; Denise and Michael Swinehart of Wadsworth, Doreen and Vince Formica of Macedonia, sons and daughter-in-law; Douglas Books of Massillon, Darrell and Terrah Books of North Canton and Duane Books of Massillon, brother and sister-in-law, George and Phyllis Books Jr. of Canton and 5 grandchildren. Funeral services celebrating David’s life will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Massillon with Rev. Mark Oster officiating. Calling hours will be Monday 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home and one hour before the services on Tuesday at the church. Entombment will follow the services at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or Visiting Nurse Society.
