David L. Garrett, age 64, of Perry Township, went home to be with his Lord on April 29, 2018. He is survived by his wife of 44 years Nora (Yoder) Garrett; his daughters Jennifer (M.L. III) Caldwell and Holly (Jason) West; his grandchildren Rebecca (Patrick) Nicely, Austin Caldwell, Elizabeth West, Logan West, Evan Caldwell and Hannah Caldwell; his mother Theresa Garrett; his brothers Dwight (Donna) Garrett Jr. and Dale (Martha) Garrett; his sister Patti (the late David) Milhoan and a host of family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Dwight Garrett Sr. He was born in Cambridge, Ohio and grew up in Plainfield, Connecticut, and Coshocton and Cambridge, Ohio. He was a 1971 graduate of Coshocton High School, where he held the record for fastest pin in wrestling for many years. After high school he joined the U.S. Navy and moved to Long Beach, CA, where he served on the U.S.S. Hollister, which made a miracle escape after being hit by a bomb that did not explode, while on a very important mission in Hanoi Harbor in Vietnam. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, The Vietnam Campaign Medal, Meritorious Commendation, Vietnam Service Medal with a Bronze Star. He worked as a Millwright at Stone Container; a team leader at Allegheny Ludlum and retired as an Accountant at PARTA. He leaves behind a legacy of serving the Lord and was a member of Living Hope Christian Fellowship for the past 22 years, where he was the bookkeeper and enjoyed serving in numerous areas of ministry. He previously served as Treasurer and Royal Ranger Leader at Calvary Temple and Coshocton Assembly of God. He served in various positions of leadership of his local unions. He was President of Coshocton Chapter of Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship International and a member of Phi Beta Kappa and a lifetime member of the VFW. He was an avid sportsman and loved to golf with family and friends and was a supportive Grandpa, as he enjoyed watching his grandkids play their sports. Staying true to the loyal man he was, he always supported the Browns, Cavs, Indians and Buckeyes. He will be missed greatly, as his jovial laugh, stories, and songs always filled a room with so much life.
