David Lee Kelly of Massillon, Ohio passed away peacefully on April 21st, 2025, at the age of 68, surrounded by his family. Though his courage was tested in his battle with health issues in recent years, his loving heart never faltered and remained a beacon of light for those who cared deeply for him.
Dave was born on March 16th, 1957, in Akron, Ohio. He was a naturally gifted athlete and competed at the highest levels of baseball throughout his years at Tuslaw High School, as well as during his attendance at Malone University. Dave was the first Tuslaw High student ever to receive the honor of making the All-Ohio Baseball Team during his senior year and continued as a stand-out catcher at Malone. He had the pleasure of playing baseball with his brother Mark during high school, where they were known as the "Kelly Brothers Battery". He continued to enjoy athletic pursuits throughout his life and loved to spend a beautiful day golfing. He was an avid bowler, which he also excelled at, and earned the distinction of bowling a rare "300", or perfect game.
Dave retired from Sugardale (Freshmark) after 38 years, where he also served several years as a union representative. He spent his life providing for and guiding his children and family with an unfaltering, gentle, and level-headed touch. He thrived outdoors, and loved growing a garden, feeding his local hummingbirds, and ensuring his yard was in pristine condition. He was loved and respected by many and will be dearly missed.
Dave is preceded in death by his father, Keith Kelly. He is survived by his wife Teresa; his daughter Tiffany Kelly; stepchildren, Jason Radtka, Brandon (Amy) Jernigan, Brian Jernigan, Daniel (Christine) Hanna, Brandy Turner, and many grandchildren; his mother, Jacqueline Boekel, and his dad Roland "Butch" Boekel. His brother Mark Kelly, and his sister Brenda Boekel, all of whom he loved and cherished in his own way.
Dave's loved ones will be honoring his wishes for a private family service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be placed in his name to the American Cancer Society.
