David Julius Klekner

David Julius Klekner and Sue (Kinney) Klekner of Massillon, both 85, died 40 hours apart at The Inn at University Village of Massillon.

David passed on March 27th, 2023, and was born in Massillon, Ohio December 7th, 1937, to the late J.J. and Eva (Stanyard) Klekner. He was married to Sue Kinney Klekner on May 14th, 1960, who joined him in death 40 short hours later. He was a member of the Class of 1955 Massillon Washington High School and graduated from Ohio University with a B.S. in Industrial Technology. He was a six term Massillon City Councilman, worked on United Way committees, member of The Pro Football Hall of Fame Club, member of First United Methodist Church, and a former member of the Elks and Eagles. David was employed by The Union Drawn Division of Republic Steel in Industrial Relations.

Sue (Kinney) Klekner of Massillon died March 29th, 2023, and was born in Canton, Ohio June 13th, 1937, to the late Ted A. and Marjorie (Ackerman) Kinney. She grew up in Perry Township, Canton, and graduated from Massillon Washington High School in 1955 and graduated from The Ohio State University College of Nursing in June 1959. Sue was a member of First United Methodist Church. She served on several Boards of Directors in the community including Stark County Lung Association, American Cancer Society, Make-A-Way Inc., and Westark Family Services. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Beta Beta Chapter Society.

David and Sue are survived by their three children: son, Ken; daughters Kay (Kevin) Rudy; Linda (Craig) Wuske and six grandchildren: Hannah (Sam) Nelson, Faith Rudy, Jake Rudy; Bryan (Betty) Wuske, Connor Wuske, Rachel Wuske; nieces and nephews.

David and Sue are also survived by David’s brother, Jim (Barbara) Klekner, Sue’s sisters Nancy Whitaker and Sandra Gravius and both were preceded in death by Sue’s brother-in-law Larry Whitaker.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 2nd from 2-5 p.m. at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon.

Funeral services for David and Sue will be held on Monday, April 3rd at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with calling hours beginning at noon until the time of the service. The service will also be livestreamed for those that cannot attend by going to www.paquelet.com and clicking on either obituary.

Both will be laid to rest at Sunset Hills Burial Park.
