David G. Fisher

February 5, 1947 — April 20, 2023

TOGETHER AGAIN. David G. Fisher entered life eternal on Thursday 4/20/2023. David was born on February 5, 1947 to the late Sidney G. and Wilma “June” (Gowins) Fisher. He graduated from Hoover High School, class of 1965 where he met the love of his life, Karen Dean. They were married on July 20, 1967, in Charleston, SC while he was in the service. They spent the next 51 years in love until Karen’s passing in 2019. After settling in Massillon together they raised two children, Sonya and Jason.

Dave proudly served his country in the US Army in Viet Nam, until May 1968. Following his honorable discharge from the army, he spent several years in the real estate business and then settled into the consumer loan business. He was a graduate of the Ohio School of Banking. After 37 years in the business and through a succession of mergers, he retired from KeyBank, as Vice President and Operations Manager of Consumer Lending. Being community minded Dave served on the board of directors for numerous organizations including the BBB, Consumer Credit Counseling Service, the Credit Executive Club and Neighborhood Housing Services of Massillon. He was a long time member of the American Legion and was active with the Boy Scouts as a youth and for many years as an adult. Having a strong faith and as a servant of the Lord, Dave was a faithful member of St John Lutheran Church of Massillon where he served many years on the Board of Directors, the Leadership Committee and in many other capacities.

Dave enjoyed fishing, camping, wood working, vintage automobilia and tinkering in the garage but family was always the most important thing to him. Family vacations, picnics, holiday gatherings and attending his kids and grandchildren’s events were his favorite things in life.

In addition to his wife Karen and parents he was preceded in death by grandparents Ralph and Elsie Fisher, Leo and Lucy Gowins, and beloved nephew Peter Milbrodt.

He is survived by, Son Jason Fisher (Amanda), Daughter Sonya (Eric) Moesle, Grand Children Emma, Kyle, Carmen, Corinna, Sister Helen Milbrodt (Donald), Brother Mark Fisher and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at St John Lutheran Church on Wednesday, April 26th at 12 p.m. with visitation beginning at 11 a.m.

Burial will take place after the service at Sunset Hills Burial Park where military rites will be performed.
