David Alexander Torrence

David Alexander Torrence was born on August 9, 1940 in Canton OH to the late Rev. Price Torrence and Susie (Mack) Torrence. He attended Canton City Schools and served in the US Army. He married Nichola Donald on May 20, 1961 and three children were born to this union. David was employed by the Ford Motor Company for 23 years and retired in 1990. He was a dedicated employee and had perfect attendance most of his tenure. David accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Trustee board. David was a member of the Canton Negro Oldtimers where he served in several capacities. He was very involved and supportive of their civic/community outreach. He loved his family and friends and always opened his home to everyone. He believed in keeping in touch and often visited family and friends and was someone you could always call on if in need. On Sunday, June 24th, God called him home after an extended illness. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 51 years Nichola. Children: David Warthen (Las Vegas, NV) Rolland Torrence, Renard Torrence of Canton, OH; Rena (Antoine) Jackson, Keller TX; Donnetta (A.J.) Kennard and Scottie Williams, Canton, OH and Katina Gray, Montgomery, AL. Grandchildren: Travell, Tre', Kevonna, Devon, Desiree, Brittany, Whitney, Sydney, Jaylen, Jaliel, Jordyn and 4 Great Grandchildren. Three sisters June Fontes and Irma Jackson of Canton, OH and Delores Reese of Lynwood, CA special friend William Jeter and several nieces, nephews and other family and friends. The Homegoing Celebration for David Torrence will be 11 AM Saturday at Shiloh Baptist Church in Canton, his pastor Rev. Charles Prince will officiate. Rev. Renard Torrence will give the Eulogy. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the church from 10 AM until the time of the service.
