Daniel Joseph Lynch

July 23, 1961 — September 11, 2020

DANIEL JOSEPH LYNCH age 59, passed away suddenly September 11, 2020 in Canton, Ohio. Dan was the cherished husband of Jayne (McCarthy), whom he loved unconditionally for 28 years, with devotion and a great deal of humor. They have had several dogs over the years, and he will be missed greatly by Snookie and Olive. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Hannah. In a family where everyone had a nickname, he was known as “Will” by his siblings. He was a very dear brother of Tom (deceased), Jerry, Sheila (Greg Johnson), Michael (Kimi), Eugene (deceased), Chris (Victoria Velez), Patrick, and Eileen (Eric Lee); and uncle of David Lynch, Matthew Johnson, Stephen Johnson (deceased), Sean and Jason Lynch, Lindsay and Allison Lee, and Tyler and William Lynch. Born July 23, 1961, in Livonia, Michigan, he grew up in North Olmsted, Ohio, where he was the senior class president at the High School. He earned a B.A. (1983) and an M.A. in Anthropology (1987) at Kent State University, and he used his broad education and sharp critical thinking skills in his career as an IT Manager at Sherwin Williams, where he retired in 2018. Dan was an avid reader of history, especially about WW II. For the last two years, he was the volunteer editor of the Journal of the 87th Infantry Division Legacy Association, in which his father Joseph served in 1944-45. For many years, he served as a volunteer for the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. He was fond of hiking and gardening, and he was highly skilled in many aspects of home improvement. Most importantly perhaps, Dan had a purity of heart that is truly rare. He had astute insights into situations and people, but he never judged anyone. His kindness and compassion were extraordinary but humble, and he will be remembered for these qualities. One of his siblings said on the day of Dan’s passing, “He was the best of us.” “The Parting Glass” is an Irish poem by an unknown author: "Since it falls unto my lot, That I should rise, and you should not, I gently rise and softly call, Goodnight and joy be with you all."
