Daniel Joseph Kress, 77, passed away peacefully at home on December 6, 2023 surrounded by his family after a battle with Leukemia. He grew up in the “grocery business” working in family store Joe Kress IGA in Harrisburg followed by 27 years at Fleming Foods. He graduated from Walsh College and was a Veteran of the Army and served in the Vietnam War.
Dan loved parties that inevitably involved playing cards, holeyboard and exaggerating stories. He excelled in asking rapid fire questions and trivia games. His favorite pastimes were golfing with his dad and brothers, reading, mowing, his bowling league and poker club, visiting with relatives, friends and neighbors, watching college football and reciting from The Andy Griffith Show.
His children and grandchildren looked forward to his creative birthday odes and him coaching/watching them play sports. Post retirement he enjoyed spending winters in Florida, family vacations and bus tour traveling, including visiting their sponsored child in Guatemala. Outside of work, Dan volunteered for his church, was a Probate Court Angel, and always offered help when needed.
Dan is survived by wife Betty Kessel Kress of 55 years, children Karen Kress (Chris Loy), Susie (Larry) Hager and Michael (Christine) Kress; his 7 grandchildren (Joe, Daniel, Jack, Luke, Alex, Colin and Anna); siblings Jim (Darlene) Kress, John (Audrey) Kress, Jane (Don) Impagliozza. He was preceded in death by parents Joseph and Maxine Kress and brother Tom (Pattie) Kress. There isn’t enough space to list all who loved him from his big family, friends and neighbors.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 11:00 am at Holy Family Parish in Navarre, Ohio. Per his wishes and his love of a good party, there will be a Celebration of Life immediately following the Mass, where everyone is welcome to share memories of Dan. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Holy Family Parish, Aultman Hospice, or consider sponsoring a child through Unbound.
