Dale W. Blickenderfer, 86 of Massillon, died on Monday, September 21, 2009 at Amherst Meadows. He was born in Verona, PA on August 7, 1923 and was the son of the late Reath and Elsie (Markley) Blickenderfer. He was a Massillon resident since 1950. He was a veteran of World War II while serving with the U.S. Army. He retired from the railroad before going to work as a technician with the former East Ohio Gas Company. Dale was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, volunteered at the Massillon Public Library, where he was a member of the Friends of the Library. He was a member of the Massillon Geneology Society and was an Ambassador of Elderhostel. He also had volunteered at the Massillon Museum. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian (Beres) Blickenderfer in 1991, his brother Paul Blickenderfer and his sister Olive Beighley. He is survived by his son, Bob (Pati) Blickenderfer, his daughters, Saundra Zinna, Linda (Vincent) Waechter and Penny (Ted) Berg all of Massillon, his grandchildren, Gina Blickenderfer, Shelley (Brian) Burch, Dan Zinna, Chris Zinna and Michael Waechter, his great grandchildren, Cody Blickenderfer and Kaeley Burch, his brother, Jack (Dot) Blickenderfer of Pennsylvania, his sister Eilene (Harold “Ted”) Hardgrove of Massillon and his brother, Reath (Gloria) Blickenderfer of Florida. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday at 11:00 A.M. at the Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home with Rev. Jeffrey Shultz officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-8 P.M. and on Friday one hour before the service. Memorials may be made in the name of Dale W.
