D. Ruth Buckey, age 85 of Canton, formerly of Massillon, went Home to be with Jesus following a 23 year battle with cancer on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 in her home at the Canton Regency. She was born on September 11, 1923 in Sharon, PA. She was an area resident for most of her life. Ruth graduated from Washington High School in 1941, and later was a member of the WHS Alumni Assn. She attended Houghton College for one year until returning to work at Tyson Roller Bearing during the war. She retired as a bookkeeper at the Massillon Salvation Army. She was a member of A.A.R.P. 3336, the Weststark Republican Women, where she was Woman of the Year, she was a pollworker and committee woman for the Stark County Board of Elections, had been involved with the Massillon Senior Center, Meals on Wheels, the Canton Salvation Army Seniors, the Canton Regency Welcome Committee and HHANA. She enjoyed her participation with the Scrabble Sisters. She was a past member of the Mother Singers and TOPS. She was an Avon representative for over 35 years. Ruth was a lifelong member of the Massillon Wesleyan Methodist Church, where she held many offices through the years. She was a musician at the church for more than 60 years. In 1946 she married Frank Buckey, who preceded her in death in 2001. She is survived by her daughters, Susie Buckey of Canton, Ohio, Becki (Scott) Lemon of Massillon and Jennie (Jeff) Miller of Massillon, her grandson, Christopher (Joni) Craver who are expecting Ruth’s great granddaughter in May. Also surviving are grandchildren, Caitlyn and Aaron Miller, her sister Roberta (Howard) Houston, her half sister Betty (Tom) Garzan and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at Massillon Wesleyan Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5-8 P.M. at the Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home and on Saturday at the church one hour before the service. The family suggests memorials be made in her name to Stark County Hospice, 3611 Whipple Avenue NW, Canton, OH 44718. Ruth’s family would like to thank, Dr. Stallings, Dr. Keyser and all of the primary private caregivers who provided outstanding care and comfort.
