Clyde D. Shankle

Clyde D. Shankle, age 72 of Dundee, Ohio, formerly of Massillon, died at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 17, 1936 in Cherry Tree, PA and was the son of the late Ord & Thelma (Fulton Shankle. He moved to Massillon in 1952 and graduated from Washington High School in 1954. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy before becoming a Massillon Policeman. He worked for many years at the Union Drawn Division of Republic Steel. He retired from Stark State College in 2001. Clyde was a Massillon Ward 2 Councilman for 7 years. He was involved in sports and was well known in the Massillon community as an umpire at the former Agathon and at Genshaft Park. He officiated at high school and college football games, including Big Ten games and a Pro Football Hall of Fame Game. He also officiated at many basketball games. He coached many boys and girls softball teams in the 1980’s. In 2003, Clyde was inducted into the Stark County Softball Hall of Fame. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Nolan, his brother Glenn Shankle and three nephews. He is survived by his wife, Lissa, daughter, Pam, brother, Harold “Skinny” Shankle of Massillon, sisters, Marvis Lewis of Massillon, Ethel (Buster) Lawson of Mt. Laurel, NJ and Donna (Jack) Harper of Republic, Ohio, stepchildren, Shea (Marybeth) Mast and Stacy (Adam) Wellman, 3 grandchildren, 19 nieces and nephews and many friends. There are no calling hours and private graveside service will take place at Brookfield Cemetery.
