Clarence L. Konen, age 86 of Massillon, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2011 at his residence surrounded by his family. Clarence was born on November 13, 1925 in Jackson Twp. the son of the late Harvey and Ruth Konen. Clarence graduated from Jackson High School and served in the Army in WWII in the Ordnance Dept. He served in New Guinea, Luzon, and Leuiye in the Philippines and Hokaido in Japan and achieved the rank of Tech. Sgt. Clarence started as a sales man for Hammond Lumber in 1962 and worked his way up to vice president and Gen. Mgr. of Hammond Lumber and Massillon Lumber from 1970-1971. He was Gen. Mgr. of the Peter Kuntz Lumber and mill work of Dayton, Ohio from 1972-1981 and Gen. Mgr. of Queen City Lumber and Mill Work Co. of Cincinnati from 1981-1995. Clarence was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #190 in Massillon. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his 1st wife Isabel M. (Eckenrode) in 1994, his son, Ronald P. Konen, his brother, Glenn Konen, his sister Blanche Smith and step-son, Timothy Maier. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of sixteen years, Betty (Fink) Konen; his son, Fred Konen; his stepdaughter, Debbie Sumption; grandchildren, Kate Konen, Adam Konen, Anne Konen and Jeffrey Konen and a great granddaughter Clorisa. Friends may call Sunday from 6-8 PM at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. His memorial service will be 2 PM Monday at the funeral home. His final resting place will be Sunset Hills.
