Clarence E. ‘Joe’ Gallimore, age 86 of Massillon, passed away Sunday at Aultman Hospital after a six month illness. He was born, March 23, 1922, in Akron to the late Harry & Elsie (Rose) Gallimore and moved to the Canton-Massillon area in 1994. He entered the US Army in 1942, served in Europe and received two Bronze Stars. While in France he served with the Free French Army of the Interior behind enemy lines for two and a half years and rose to the field rank of Colonel. He was a Golden Glove Boxing Champion in his younger years. For many years he owned and operated Gallimore’s Body Shop in Akron and retired in 1984. Joe was a 50 year member of the Adoniram Joppa Lodge # 517 in Akron and the Tadmore Shrine and was a Chief Aide to the Potentate for 18 years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Doloris A. (Cain) Gallimore of 48 years; a brother, Jim and a sister, Pearl. He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Wagoner) Jones Gallimore of Massillon; two children, Kevin Gallimore of Tampa and Kathy Albright of Akron; step-daughters, Rita (William Sr.) Haines, Judith (Stuart) Spangler, Lynda (Patrick) Jones and Martha Polnik; sister, Janet DeVitis; brother, Sam Gallimore; four grandchildren and nine step grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Friends may call 5-8 PM Thursday at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon.
