Clarence (Blue) Schmidt

Clarence A. (Blue) Schmidt, age 82 of Massillon, died Tuesday, November 1, 2005 at Massillon Community Hospital. He was born on January 7, 1923 in Massillon and was the son of the late Robert J. & Lena (Williams) Schmidt. He was the 6th of 7 siblings. He was a 1942 graduate of Washington High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy at Great Lakes, IL. He was trained and assigned a butcher/cook and served in Norfolk, VA and England. He took part in the Normandy Invasion. As a teenager he worked at Tony’s Bike Shop. He later worked at the A&P in Massillon and Canton for 40 years. Following their closing he worked as a custodian at Amherst Elementary in Jackson Twp, retiring after 11 years of service. He is a member of Faith Lutheran Church, the AMVETS, and the American Legion Post 221. He was preceded in death by his brother Robert J. Schmidt, Jr. and sisters, May Felts and Norma Jean Schmidt and 2 infant siblings. He is survived by his wife, Janet G. (Myers) Schmidt whom he married on December 12, 1955 and his sister Mrs. Andrew (Helen) Bailey, many nieces and nephews and a special nephew, Robin Bailey of Massillon who he depended on and treated like a son. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, November 7, 2005 at 1:00 P.M. at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday one hour before the service. A gift in Mr. Schmidt’s name may be made to either Faith Lutheran Church or Multiple Sclerosis Society.
