Christopher R. Marcum, 56, of North Canton, passed away with his family by his side, on March 9, 2024, after a courageous four-year battle with cancer.
He was born on February 28, 1968, in Barberton, Ohio, to Jessie and Donna (Hayes) Marcum.
Chris was a graduate of Barberton High School as well as the University of Akron where he received his bachelor’s degree in education. He then furthered his education with the University of Phoenix and received his master’s degree in education.
Chris was a beloved teacher at Northwest Middle School for 20+ years where he taught 8th grade American history. His knowledge and passion for history made it easy for his students to enjoy. One of his favorite things to do with his students was to chaperone the 8th grade trip to Washington, D.C. No matter how many times Chris went, he still looked forward to it every year as if it was his first time there. Not only was Chris a teacher, but he also took on the role as Northwest’s baseball coach as well as his son’s little league teams.
Chris was also an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hiking, hunting, and fishing, especially at his favorite place, Sippo Lake Park. This was the same place that Chris shared many memories during his summers off with his son, Sebastian.
Another favorite hobby that Chris shared with his wife Stacy, was their love for paranormal activity and ghost hunting. They visited many haunted places such as Gettysburg, Mansfield Reformatory, and Canton Palace Theater to name a few.
He had a love for music and attending concerts. He even had a job as sound and light tech for two rock and roll bands, his brother’s band, Contayjus, and the Market Avenue Band.
Chris also recently purchased a 1973 Corvette Stingray and participated in and attended many car shows over the years where they also showed their VW Vanagon and his 2021 Mustang.
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Stacy whom he married on Christmas Eve in 2013 in a log cabin; his son Sebastian; his father, Jesse Marcum; brothers Scott (Jennie), Aaron (Linda) and Jason (Nicole) Marcum; father and mother-in-law, Bill and Sandy Cody; sister-in-law, Jamie (Mike) Benner; as well as many other extended family members, including his best friend, Devin Hayes.
Chris was preceded in death by his mother, Donna Marcum.
