Cheryl A. Ferris, 66, of Perry Twp., passed away unexpectedly at home on June 20, 2014. Cheri was born in Canton on May 15, 1948 to William "Bill" and Peggy (Chance) Ferris. She graduated from Perry High School in 1966. After graduating, Cheri was employed briefly by the Post Office as the first female mail carrier in Canton and then for the past 40 years she was a transcriptionist at Massillon City Hospital and Aultman Hospital in the radiology department and most recently in the pathology lab at Aultman. Cheri was an avid gardener, loved flowers, cooking, and adored cats, adopting many stray cats over the years and feeding and caring for numerous strays that came to her doorstep every day. Cheri was vibrant and full of fun and was the life of every party, her smile and laughter could light up a room. She also became quite the fisherman, spent many good times fishing on Pleasant Hill Lake at Mohican. Cheri had considerable tragedy in her life and for the last four years was dealing with very difficult health issues but she didn't complain and did not want anyone fussing over her, and in spite of it all she managed to go to work every day. Her optimism and courage was amazing and indicative of her strength of character. Cheri is survived by her beloved aunt, Phyllis Jo Todd and several cousins. In addition, she is also survived by a large extended family of friends that called her daughter, sister and aunt; Ruth and Richard Popiel, Susanne and David Harrison, Jason Harrison, Carole (Tootie) and Ross Mariol, Desiree Geier, Tom and Audrey Jordan, Sherry and Tim Wilson and Kayla, Laurie and Mike Turner, Melanie and Todd Oberlin and Jordan and Frank Griffin. She was a very special part of our lives and we will miss her more than words can say. Cheri was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved brother David, her aunt Beverly Mollica, dear friends Jay Halter and Carol Beebe and many, many cat "kids". A Memorial Service will be held Saturday at 2:00 PM at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon with Kevin O'Brien as the celebrant. Messages of support and comfort may be sent to www.paquelet.com. Memorial contributions can be made to the Animal Attic in Canton or Stark County Humane Society. Paquelet Funeral Home & Crematory 330-833-3222
