Charles L. Smith

Charles L. Smith, 79 of Perry Township, passed away on Monday, March 26, 2018. Charles was born on July 25, 1938 in Navarre, the son of the late Frank C. and Edith F. (Plyler) Smith. He was a 1956 graduate of Canton Central Catholic. He began his career at the Timken Company as an apprentice on July 30, 1956. While working, he earned an associate degree from Kent State University and completed management programs at Wittenberg University, Walsh College and the University of Connecticut. He was a member of the International Management Council and The American Society for Quality Control. He retired on January 1, 1995 as General Manager - Large Industrial Bearings. During his working years, he enjoyed golf, fishing in Canada and Lake Erie and gardening. After retirement he enjoyed traveling to Florida and Texas during the winter months. He enjoyed going to the gym and was an avid puzzle solver. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie A. Smith in 2010 and his sisters, Gwendolyn M. Keller, Mary Louise Storz, Evelyn C. Evans, Dorothy A. Kepler and Ona Lee Godfrey. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Patricia R. (Doust) Smith; son & daughter-in-law, Stephen Clair (Jenice) Smith of The Woodlands, TX; grandson, Stephen Charles Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A Celebration of Charles’ life will be held on Friday, March 30, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. at the Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. before the service.
