Charles L. Sidel, age 86 of Massillon, died on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Affinity Medical Center. He was born on March 29, 1924 in Noble County, Ohio and was the son of the late George and Clara (Powell) Sidel. He was a Massillon resident since 1950. Charles was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. While serving he was a P.O.W. for 14 months. He retired from Republic Steel in 1980 after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Massillon Baptist Temple, the Ex P.O.W.’s, the Tusky Valley Pioneer Power Association and had worker as a logger. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward Sidel and Howard Sidel and his sister Mary Stevens. He is survived by his wife, Eva L. (Borton) Sidel, whom he married on July 11, 1945, his son, Gene (Lin) Sidel of Dover, OH, his daughter, Carol (Ray) Deibel of Dalton, OH, his grandchildren, Eric (Candy) Deibel, Leann Deibel, Timothy Sidel, Matthew (Tara) Sidel and Elizabeth Sidel, his great grandson, Logan Sidel and his sister Martha (Richard) Stephen of Barnesville, OH, Funeral services will be conducted on Monday at 11:00 A.M. at the Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Home with Rev. Cecil Thayer officiating. Entombment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Wooster, Ohio. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 P.M. and on Monday one hour before the service at the funeral home.
