Charles F. Gumpp age 71 of Akron passed away Thursday March 1, 2007 at Akron City Hospital. He was born May 3, 1935 in Massillon to the late Fred W. & Jennie L (Parnacott) Gumpp. Charlie was a 1953 graduate of Washington High School and played on the championship football teams of 1950, 1951, & 1952. Chuck with his father and brother developed much of the Colonial Hills allotment (Massillon), Greenbrier Development and Distant View Farms in Jackson Twp. . He was the Massillon Tiger Booster Club president in 1964 and president of the Massillon Club in 1965. In 1969, he and his brother Richard J. purchased Gumpp Cadillac in Mansfield, OH. During this time he was president of the Auto Dealers Assoc. of Mansfield. In 1974 Chuck purchased the Cadillac-Oldsmobile Dealership in Lorain, OH. In 1975 while operating his dealership in Lorain, he purchased the former Towell Cadillac Dealership in Canton. He sold his auto interest in 1991, and continued to operate Fred W. Gumpp Inc. During his business career in Canton, he won many awards from General Motors, including the Master Dealer Award. He served as chairman of the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce in 1982. Chuck will be remembered for his gregarious nature, loved spending time with family and friends at his home on the Portage Lakes and was a huge Ohio State Buckeye and Massillon Tiger Fan. Chuck is survived by three children and their spouses: Charles F. 'Chad' & Chris Gumpp II of North Canton, Todd L. Gumpp of Akron, Kimberly J. & Brian Fichter of Massillon. A Brother and sister in law Richard 'Dick' & Esther Gumpp of Akron. His partner, Marion Zeck of Akron. Grandchildren: Bridget, Charles 'Chuck' III, Kathleen 'Katie', Hilary, and Tyler. Funeral service will be 1 PM Monday at St. Timothy Episcopal Church in Massillon, Rector Henry Harris will officiate. Burial will be at Sunset Hills Burial Park.
