Charles Curtis Hughes

Charles Curtis Hughes age 79 of Canton, passed away Tuesday morning at Aultman Hospital. He was born on November 9, 1928 in Newland, NC to the late Jack and Hazel (Oakes) Hughes and lived in the Canton area for 25 years. Charles had worked for Oaks Construction and later retired from Brown Brothers Construction. He was an active member of Freedom Baptist Fellowship in Brewster. He enjoyed mountain trout fishing, hunting, NASCAR, reading and the Cleveland Indians and Cavaliers. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his grandfather, Rev. Garfield Hughes; brother, Michael Hughes; daughter, Sharon Kay Hughes. Charles is survived by his wife, Janeen (Cseak) Hughes, with whom he celebrated 52 years of marriage on January 9, 2008; sons and daughters-in-law, Terry Curtis (Missy) Hughes, Jerry Charles (Christine) Hughes both of Aiken, SC; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah (Rev. Dale) Calloway of Massillon; grandchildren, Tiffany (Brad) Weaver of Wilmot, Bethany, Stephany, Joshua Calloway all of Massillon, Jeremy (Heather) Hughes of N. Augusta, SC, Adrianne Hughes of Santa Maria, California, Sharon Hughes, of Hartselle, Alabama, Holley Hughes of Aiken, SC; great grandchild, Gunnar Weaver; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pauline Hughes of Newland, NC, Sandra (Jerry) Guinn of Elk Park, NC, Wanda (James) Carpenter of Canton and a brother, Clyde Hughes of Newland, NC. Funeral services celebrating Charles’ life will be held Saturday, July 19, 2008 at 2:00 PM at Roaring Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Newland, NC with his nephew Rev. Chris Hughes officiating. Calling hours will be 6:00 – 8:00 PM TODAY at the Arnold – Lynch Funeral Home in Massillon and Saturday 12:00 – 2:00 PM at the church. Interment will follow the services at Hughes Memorial Cemetery in Roaring Creek, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the family.
