Charles E. Flounders, Sr., 84, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 16, 2023. He was born in Massillon on November 7, 1938, to the late Ralph and Francis (Snyder) Flounders.
He was a graduate of Massillon High School and following graduation, Chuck proudly served his country in the United States Navy.
Chuck was self-employed as a carpenter, perfecting his skill over the years. He could build and repair almost anything.
In his younger years, Chuck coached softball, baseball, and even enjoyed being the umpire for games. He was also an avid bowler, which he did for most of his life.
When he wasn’t on a baseball field, you could still find Chuck outside. His love for the outdoors included fishing, hunting, and camping. He loved taking trips with his sons to go fishing, especially to Canada, which was his favorite place to go.
Above all, Chuck was devoted to his family as well as his church, Massillon Baptist Temple, where he was a longtime member. He will always be remembered as a loving dad, grandpa, and great grandpa to those that knew him best.
Chuck is survived by his sons, Charles "Bud" (Kelly) Flounders, Jr., Mark (Jill) Flounders, David (Tammy) Flounders, Don (Melissa) Flounders, John (Jodi) Flounders, and Tommy (Marlo) Flounders; siblings Robert "Bobby" (Gloria) Flounders, Gloria (Roger) Mahaffey, Jerry Flounders and Donna Baughman; and 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren who were the light of his life.
In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by loving wife of 63 years, Evelyn “Evie” Flounders, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 21st from 6-8 p.m. at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 am at the funeral home with calling hours beginning at 10am.
Chuck will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife Evelyn, at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens following the service where military honors will be rendered.
