Charles A. Flickinger, age 93, of Massillon passed away Sunday September 27, 2015, following declining health in recent years. He was born to the late Adolph and Mathilde Flickinger of Massillon. Charles attended Washington High School and enlisted and served honorably in the US Army as a staff sergeant in the WW II European Theatre. Following he spent over four decades working for the McLain Grocery Co. During his early years with the company, Charles was a semi-truck delivery driver and had earned safe-driving acclaims during the 1960s. Thereafter, he remained a warehouse employee until his retirement. Charles was a long-time member of St. John Lutheran Church of Massillon. His favorite past-times included watching old westerns, sports, wood working and spending time with family and being helpful to all with a smile. He was a blessed handyman and could build and fix most things. Charles grew up in a farm-like setting, so animals esp. dogs and horses were always a special joy for him. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 47 years, Nellie Y. Flickinger and his sister, Nellie M. Storz. He is survived by his daughter and primary care-giver Judith Flickinger and his son David Flickinger, sisters-in-law Mildred Samsa and Ann Suite all of Massillon and a host of nieces and nephews. Regarding the last two years, the family wishes to thank the following for compassion and intermittent health care: Interim Health Care, Dr. Wayne Lutzky, Massillon Fire Department Team of EMS First Responders, Amherst Meadows and Hanover House Skilled Nursing Units. Family and Friends may call from 5 to 7 PM at the Paquelet Funeral Home on Wednesday September 29, 2015. Funeral Services preceded by one hour visitation will take place at St. John Lutheran Church of Massillon on October 1, 2015 at 11 AM. Burial will follow at the Massillon Cemetery.
