Cathy Yvonne Prowell-Ursery

Cathy Yvonne Prowell-Ursery entered this life on October 24, 1950, in the small town of Massillon, Ohio, the second child of Jesse Jerome Prowell, Jr. and the late Georgia Lena Stewart Prowell. One brother, Jesse Jerome Prowell III, preceded her in death. On Friday, May 18, 2007, God redeemed time, gave her wings and she took flight to be safe in His arms evermore. To God be the glory! Cathy was a life long leaner who dedicated her life to the pursuit of knowledge. She completed her early education in Massillon and graduated from Washington High School in 1968. She resided for a brief time in Columbus, Ohio where she earned a Private Secretary Degree from Columbus Business University. After relocating to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1973, she earned a certificate in Special Circuit Design from Bellcore Technical School and attended Indiana University Purdue University, as well as Indiana Vocational College. Cathy matriculated to Indiana Wesleyan University, where she earned an Associate of Science in Business Administration, Bachelor of Science in Business Management (Magna Cum Laude), and Master of Science in Business Management. At the time of her death, she had completed the coursework and was working on her dissertation for a Doctor of Education degree in Organizational Leadership. Formerly married to Robert Lee Ursery, Cathy’s first child, Cathy Tish’Chara Prowell-Ursery was born in 1972, followed by Robin Lea Ursery in 1979. Cathy was a very spiritual woman who showed love to all those with whom she came in contact. She professed her belief in Christ at an early age and was baptized at the St. James AME Church in Massillon, Ohio. After relocating to Indianapolis, Indiana, she united with the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church where she re-affirmed her faith and was baptized a second time in 1988. Recently, she also attended services at Umoja Christian Church. Beginning her career at Ohio Bell in 1970, Cathy retired in 2004 after 34 years with SBC/Ameritech Corporation. During that time, she held a number of managerial and administrative positions, most recently as Area Manager of Network Service Staff. Since 1999, she also was an Adjunct Professor at Indiana Wesleyan University. Cathy’s legacy and her memory will be cherished by her daughters, Cathy Tish’Chara Prowell-Ursery of Indianapolis and Robin Lea Ursery of Tucson, Arizona; father, Jesse Jerome Prowell, Jr, and sisters, Sylvia Prowell Johnson and Selena Prowell Robinson (Jackie) , all of Massillon, Ohio; a dear friend and caregiver, Dr. Roselyn Cole, nieces, nephews, cousins, The Posse’ and many friends.
