Catherine L. Gerrard

Catherine Gerrard went Home to the Lord on January 7, 2015. She was preceded in death by her daughter Norma Jean Carrell. She is survived by her daughter Jane Ann Bast; her son Charles Ley; her grandchildren Cindy Carrell Bowling; J.D. Carrell; Lisa Marie Bast; Michele Lynn Yarbrough; Edward N. Bast, Jr.; and nine great-grandchildren. Catherine was an extraordinary woman with keen intelligence and an independent spirit. She had a giving heart and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Never one to be idle, Catherine loved playing a good game of cards with friends and family. In her younger years, she liked nothing better than spending a leisurely afternoon aboard her houseboat at Atwood Lake. An accomplished woman, Catherine served as supervisor with the Ohio Unemployment Bureau until her retirement in 1984, marking a distinguished career in public service. No words can adequately express the incredible impact of her loss on those who loved her. We are grateful for the long and rich life she shared with us and gather comfort from our many memories. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to The American Heart & Lung Association or to a charity of your choice. A service honoring Catherine's life will be held at the Chapel of North Canton on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at 1:30 p.m.
