Catherine “Kay” E. (Townsend) Bettilyon, age 73 of Jackson Township, died on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at the Hospice Care Center in Copley, Ohio surrounded by her family. She was born on December 21, 1936 in Massillon and was the daughter of the late Clyde and Eleanor (Bamberger) Townsend. She retired from the former Massillon Community Hospital where she was a ward secretary in the Emergency Department. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the St. Therese Guild at the church. For over 50 years, she played cards with her friends in her card club. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald “Benny” Bettilyon, her son William Bettilyon and her brother, Victor Townsend. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Michael Bettilyon of Stoughton, WI, John & Suzy Bettilyon of Jackson Twp., Scott & Cheri Bettilyon of Asheville, NC and Robert & Maria Bettilyon of Jackson Twp., her daughter in law, Jeanne Bettilyon of Dalton, Ohio, her grandchildren, Kyle, Andy, Reid, Hayley, Hannah, Nathan, Alex, Caroline, Steven, Ellen, Laura and Michael Bettilyon and Christie (Fred) Martin. Also surviving are her great grandchildren, Zakary, Zander and Ariana. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday at 9:30 A.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Robert Miller officiating. Burial will take place privately. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5-8 P.M at the Paquelet Funeral Home, 1100 Wales Road NE in Massillon. Those who wish may make a memorial contribution in her name to the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Kay felt blessed in recent months by the support and caring of her many friends, including her co-workers at Massillon Community Hospital, the “Belles of St. Mary’s” and other lifelong friends.
