Carlton J. Austin, 90, of Massillon, Ohio passed away November 8, 2016 at McKinley Health Care Center in Canton, Ohio. He was born February 1, 1926 to the late Byron Roseman Austin and Ruth Engle Austin. He was married to Carol Cook Austin in 1949 and she passed away in 2007. Carl "Snork" Austin graduated from Massillon Washington High School in 1944 where he served as football manager. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1949 and Master of Arts in 1950 from Kent State University. Carl taught geography at Massillon's Longfellow Junior High and at a number of Kent State branches. He coached tennis at Massillon Washington High School and New Philadelphia Kent State program. In addition to teaching, Carl also worked for a number of years as a coal broker in the business his father founded in northeast Ohio. Also known as "CJ" to many friends and family, he is survived by two sons, Todd (Kathy) of Canton and Barney (Kathy) of Massillon; 3 grandsons, Brian of Logan, UT, James Henry "Hank" (Taylor) of North Ridgeville Ohio and Robert Patrick "Pat" (Michelle) of Ladson, SC; two great granddaughters, Cayleigh and Fallon. His family would like to thank McKinley Health Care Center staff for their compassionate care during Carl's residence. They would also like to thank the staff of Great Lakes Hospice, and Paul and Melanie Forquer. A private service was held for the immediate family. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association, McKinley Health Care Center or a charity of your choice.
