C. Wayne Sampsel, age 80 of Massillon, died Saturday, February 10, 2007 at his home. He was born on November 2, 1926 in Berlin, Ohio and was the son of the late Floyd & Iva (Kandel) Sampsel. Wayne was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy. He owned Stewart’s Root Beer stand and later Kitchen Cook’d Potato Chips. Wayne was an avid golfer and was able to shoot his age. He worked at the Legends of Massillon and was treasurer of the Stark County Senior Golf Association for 12 years. He also loved music and performed with the Lions Club music review. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Raymond Sampsel. He is survived by his wife, Betty J. (Zurcher) Sampsel whom he married on May 10, 1947; his children, Lucia Sampsel of Perry Twp, Michael Sampsel of Portage Lakes, Bruce (Brenda) Sampsel of Massillon, Carol (David) Spahlinger of Ann Arbor, MI, Craig (Laura) Sampsel of Canton and Christine (Scott) Turskey of Winona Lake, IN; 12 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and his sister Katherine Vuchovich of Wilmot, OH. A Memorial Service will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church in Massillon on Saturday, February 17, 2007 at 11:00 A.M with a luncheon following the service. Calling hours will be on Friday, February 16 at Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home from 6:30-8:30 P.M.
