Betty L. Schumacher

June 12, 1930 — March 16, 2022

Betty L. Schumacher, 91, of Massillon passed away at her home on March 16, 2022. She was born at home in West Lebanon, Ohio on June 12, 1930, to the late Warren Eckroad and Margaret Lemmon (Chuck Becherer) Eckroad. She was a graduate of Mt. Eaton High School and attended Wooster Business College. Betty worked at Republic Steel as the secretary to the CEO and then at the former Massillon Community Hospital as a secretary in the dietary department. She held that position part-time for over 20 years before retiring. Betty was a dedicated Massillon Tiger fan. She and her husband LeRoy were lifelong season ticket holders for over 65 years. They were avid attendees, never missing a game and Betty even attended the first game of this past football season. She also enjoyed spending time at their lake cottage on Turkeyfoot Lake which is still a favorite family hangout and in the winter months, she loved traveling to Florida which she and LeRoy did for over 10 years. They also shared a favorite hobby, which was collecting antique mechanical musical instruments. Betty loved spending time with her family, especially if it involved shopping with her granddaughters. She had a purse and pair of shoes for every day of the week. She will be deeply missed by her sons Todd (Beverly) Schumacher and Kim (Pam) Schumacher; grandchildren Jill (Thomas) Maxson, Laura (Kenny) Hunt, Derek (Fiancée, Theresa Tran) Schumacher, Leslie (Justin) DiRuzza and Paul (Amanda Ference) Schumacher; great-grandchildren Scarlett, Ethan, Sophie, Owen and Brooklyn; and Betty’s sister Karen (Jim “Pink”) Hamilton. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, LeRoy Schumacher, sister Gloria Krichbaum and brother Warren Eckroad. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 23rd from 11-12 p.m. at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. Funeral services will follow at 12 p.m. and burial will take place at Sunset Hills Burial Park.
