Betty L. Phillips

Betty Louise Phillips, 91, of Canton, passed away on February 21, 2023 after a brief illness. She was born on May 31, 1931 to the late Leo and Geneva (Knight) Smith in Shadyside, OH. Betty was a 1948 graduate of Massillon Washington High School and later was a graduate of Kent State University. She married Delmar D. Phillips on July 28, 1951 and shared almost 62 years together until his passing in 2013.

Betty taught Kindergarten and 3rd grade with the Massillon City Schools for over 30 years. She was a former president of the Massillon Women's Club, an avid Mah Jong player and enjoyed spending her winters in Venice, Florida. Betty never met a stranger and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Marsha L. (Thomas) Knauss and Denise E. McGinnis; her grandchildren, Allison (Chris) Stormer, Meghan McGinnis and Kirsten (Patrick) Riester; her great-grandchildren Lexie, Olivia, Drew Adams and Natalie and Cora Riester. In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by her grandson Eric Knauss.
