Betty Jean Grand

January 3, 1932 — November 26, 2022

Betty Jean Grand left this world peacefully November 26th, 2022, at the age of 90. She was born the second of three children in Evansville, Indiana on January 3, 1932, to Frederick Krause and Ethel Clara Fruehwald. Her siblings are Carl Krause (deceased) and Joan Grand. She was a loving, giving, and courageous woman. She “never met a stranger. Every person in the world to her, was just a friend she hadn’t met yet.” She always saw the good in people, would spread love and helped others wherever she went.

She spent her childhood on a farm where she played with her with her two siblings and had her own cow. Later the family moved to the house on Delaware Street where she grew up and then graduated from Central High School in 1949. Her first job was as a stenographer for the Underwriters Adjusting Company. The May after she turned twenty- one she met the love of her life while dancing. Lieutenant James Joseph Grand asked her dance- a dance which continued for the next 67 years. We have loving memories of them jitterbugging to records in the family room. Her love of Jimmy, and her three girls was evident in everything she did. She Worked at General Tire as an executive secretary until after her second daughter, Julie was born. She lost her first daughter Linda at birth. She stayed home with her youngest two daughters until they entered school. She gave them the foundation of a loving stable home and helped her daughters achieve their dreams. As a dedicated wife and mother, she was the rock that the rest of her family built their foundations on. Her faith in God and love of our Lord was her rock. That too, she passed to her daughters. She started back to work at Central Trust Bank, which later became Fifth Third Bank. She was an exemplary worker in every way but would be reprimanded at times for spending too much time helping customers. She always found time to help others and walked for the March of Dimes for as long as she could.
