Betty J. Holmes

Betty J. Holmes, age 83 of Dover passed away Thursday, February 10, 2011 after a short illness at Union Hospital, Dover, OH. She was born August 11, 1927 in Washington, PA to the late Andrew & Elizabeth (King) Yavoich. Most of her life was spent in the Canton-Navarre area. Betty retired in 1983 from Aultman Hospital after many years of service. She was a member of the VFW Post #5047 Ladies Auxiliary and had served as president. Betty was an avid reader; enjoyed watching NASCAR and the Cleveland Indians. For personal pleasure she liked cross-stitching, playing cards and bingo. Most of all she loved to spend time with the very special family members that joyfully worked to help her live her life to the fullest. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Paul M. Holmes Sr. (1983), a son Paul M. Holmes Jr. (1999), a daughter Barbara L. Cale (2003) and three brothers, Bobby, Raymond and James Yavoich. Betty is survived by a daughter, Lisa M. (Don) Stropki of East Sparta, a son Thomas A. (Debbie) Holmes of Canton, a sister Clara Gricar and a brother Harry Yavoich both of PA. There are eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Funeral Service will be 1 PM Monday at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon, Chaplain Brian Flood will officiate. Burial will be at Union Lawn Cemetery in Navarre. Friends may call Monday from 12 PM until the time of the service on Monday. A special thank you goes out to the staff at Union Hospital of Dover and Community Hospice.
