Betty J. Appleby age 90 of Massillon passed away Monday September 29, 2008 at Affinity Medical Center. Betty was born August 27, 1918 in Massillon to the late John & Hazel (Miller) Morgan and graduated from Washington High School in 1937. She managed the former Catholic Information Center in the Canton Center Mall. Betty was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Christian Mothers Society and Central Catholic Grotto Committee. Betty was a life long fan of the Cleveland Indians, enjoyed playing cards, a fan of Notre Dame and stayed active with WHS Reunion Committee. She enjoyed having breakfast and lunch with her many friends, and was appreciative of their support. She was proud of her 9 grandchildren, Kirk & Melinda Schmidt, Steve & Kathy Schmidt, Vince & Annette Simone, Doug Schmidt, John & Jennifer Paul, Jim & Michelle Paul, Jeff & Lisa Paul, Jerry & Julie Paul, Jason & Erica Paul; 27 great grandchildren who were always remembered on special days. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Elmer Appleby and a brother John W. Morgan. She is survived by two daughters and sons in law: Judith & Raymond Schmidt and Jacqueline & Larry Paul all of Massillon; nine grandchildren and twenty-seven great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Massillon, Fr. Raymond Paul will officiate. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 PM at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to either St. Joseph Bell Tower Fund or the Central Catholic Grotto Fund.
