Bernice “Jean” Baker, 79, of Massillon, passed away on Tuesday, February 15, 2022. Jean was born on March 2, 1942, in Brownwood, TX, the daughter of the late James and Nora (Royal) Crocker. She worked for the Timken Co. as a payroll coordinator and retired after 25 years of service. She was also a seamstress and had started sewing her own clothes at the age of 9. Jean loved music and was the choir director for both the First Assembly of God and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. She formed a music group with her daughter, sister, and niece called “Echoes of Love” and they performed at area nursing homes throughout the 3 counties of Summit, Stark, and Wayne counties. Jean was also a lifelong member of Beta Sigma Phi. She was a faithful member of the Massillon Baptist Temple. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Crocker. She is survived by her daughter, Nora (Ivan) Herwick; grandchildren, Emma, and Owen; sister, Karen (William) Cunion; niece and nephews, William (Jesse) Cunion, Robyn (Scott) Lori, and Jim (Toy Jones) Farrabee. A Celebration of Jean’s life will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at 2 p.m. at Paquelet Funeral Home. The family will receive guests at the funeral home from 12:30 p.m. till 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
