Bernice J. Edie

Bernice J. Edie, 89 of Massillon, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, May 17, 2017 at the Laurels of Massillon. She was born on February 3, 1928 in Massillon and was the daughter of the late Charles and Ida (Farinet) Ickes. Bernice graduated from Washington High School in 1946 and went on to work as a secretary at the former Massillon State Hospital. On August 21, 1949, she married Virgil Edie and together they raised their family. Virgil preceded her in death on June 30, 2009. She was also preceded in death by her son, Mark Edie and her sister Viola Cicchinelli. Bernice is survived by her daughter, Robin R. Schumacher and her partner Robert Trieff, her son Alan Edie and his wife Susan, her grandchildren, Alison (John) Krohe, Kurt (Rachel) Edie, Jill (Thomas) Maxson and Derek Schumacher, her great grandson Ethan Maxson, her brother Paul Ickes, her sister Donna Rhine and several nieces and nephews. The family will celebrate Bernice’s life on Monday at 11:30 a.m. at the Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home. Friends may call before the service from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Brookfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Bernice’s name to either the Washington High School Alumni Association or Epworth United Methodist Church.
